Why parents choose StoryPress

4Words a Day

No overwhelm. No homework. Just 4 new words, a short game, and a story page — in about 10 minutes. Small enough to fit into any day.

Every Word Becomes a Story

Your child doesn't memorise a list. They meet words inside stories they help create — and that's what makes them remember.

A Book They Made Themselves

After 10 days, your child has a finished storybook with their name on the cover. Not a certificate. Not a score. A real book.

Built to be made, not watched

Screens are built to be effortless — endless fun a child just takes in, with nothing left at the end. StoryPress turns the same device the other way: your child meets words, imagines a story, colors it in, and makes a page that's truly theirs.

Three steps to a real storybook

How It Works

01

Meet & Play

Four new words arrive every day — few enough to truly stick. Jini introduces each like a new friend. Then words turn into puzzles, matches and games — the kind where learning hides inside the fun.

02

Create

Today's words become a story page. Pick the path, color the scene. The book grows one page at a time.

03

Collect

Day 10: the book is complete. Their name on the cover. Print it, share it, read it at bedtime.

Other apps end with a score. StoryPress ends with a book.

A Growing Library

A growing library of books they made themselves

Every month, a new book. Every book, their creation — their name on the cover, their words inside, their colors on every page.

12

books a year

A new finished book every month — twelve of their own by the end of the year.

1,000+

word encounters

Across a year of stories and games, words return again and again — until they stick.

10min

a day

Short enough for any schedule. Long enough to make real progress.

Built on Research

We didn't invent a method. We built on what works.

Decades of vocabulary research, wrapped in something a child actually wants to do.

Research-backed words

Grounded in Dolch, Fry and the Science of Reading — trusted by educators in New Zealand, Australia, the US, and the UK.

Spaced repetition

Words return at carefully timed intervals — the same proven memory science behind the world's best learning tools.

Learning by creating

Children remember what they make — far better than what they're simply given. Every story page is active creation, not passive consumption.

Built on the Science of Reading— the same research behind New Zealand's new classroom literacy programme

Based on Dolch & Fry word lists · Nation's vocabulary framework · Biemiller's developmental sequences · output-hypothesis research.

Our Story

We built this for our daughter.
Then every family needed it.

Penny and I spent years in publishing — we made magazines, and we thought about books for a living: why they matter, why they last. Then our daughter moved to a new country at four, and English was a wall.

We tried everything we knew; nothing reached her. What finally did wasn't a lesson — it was a story she made herself. So we built that one moment into this.

Research-basedBuilt with love

My child creates a new story page every day —
and can't wait to show me what she made.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

StoryPress is an English storybook app for children aged 3–8. Every day, your child meets 4 new words, plays short games, and uses those words to create a story page. After 10 days, all the pages come together into a finished book — with your child's name on the cover. Born from our own bilingual family journey in Auckland.

For ages 3–8. It's a gentle fit for homes where English isn't the first language, too. Words and stories adapt to your child — no level numbers, no pressure.

Each day takes about 10 minutes. Your child meets 4 new words with pictures and sound → plays short games (spelling, matching, sentences) → then creates a story page using those words. After 10 days, the pages become a finished book. Words come back naturally through stories and games — so they stick without drilling.

StoryPress is free to start — your child creates their first full storybook, no credit card needed. After that, paid plans (Starter and Family) unlock unlimited books. Current pricing is always shown inside the app.

Most apps end with a quiz. StoryPress ends with a book. Your child doesn't just practise words — they use them to create something real. And when they bring that book home to show you, that's when the real magic happens. It's also designed specifically for bilingual families — not adapted from a general English app.

Yes. Parents can track their child's progress and review today's words together. We designed it so learning becomes a shared family moment — not just screen time.

4 words a day × 10 days = 1 storybook. Every day your child meets new words, plays with them, and creates a story page. By Day 10, they've made a complete book — and made every page along the way.
